Anna Theresa Steckel was born in 1985. Born into a musical family, she started playing violin at the age of eight. She studied with Antje Weithaas at the Musikhochschule „Hanns Eisler“ in Berlin and with Donald Weilerstein at the New England Conservatory in Boston.

In addition to her studies, she has participated in masterclasses with Kolja Blacher, Zakhar Bron, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Stephan Picard, Thomas Zehetmair, Thomas Brandis, and with members of the Alban Berg Quartet, Artemis Quartet, Cleveland Quartet and Mandelring Quartet.

She has won several prizes in competitions and was a grantee of the Oscar und Vera Ritter-Foundation, the Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz, the Live Music Now Foundation and of the Festival-Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic in Zermatt.

From 2011 to 2013, she was a scholarship holder of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) which supported her studies in Boston.

Anna Theresa Steckel is especially passionate about chamber music, and her musical partners have included Daishin Kashimoto, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Joshua Bell, Antoine Tamestit, Maximilian Hornung, Julian Steckel and Jens-Peter Maintz among others.

As soloist, she has performed with the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, the Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz, the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Mainz, the Homburger-Kammersinfonie-Orchester and the Euroclassic Festival Orchester Pirmasens. As soloist and chamber musician, she has has appeared in many European countries as well as in Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam and Pakistan, as a result of collaborations made possible through the Goethe Institut.

Anna Theresa Steckel acquired orchestra experience at the Berlin Philharmonic, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Hamburg and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, where she had the opportunity to work with Mariss Jansons, Riccardo Chailly, Riccardo Muti, Andris Nelsons, Alan Gilbert, Daniele Gatti, Herbert Blomstedt and Daniel Harding, among others.

From 2013 to 2014, she played as assistant concertmaster at the Komische Oper Berlin. Since 2014 she is Konzertmeister of the second violins at Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. Anna Theresa Steckel plays a violin made by Julia Maria Pasch, Vienna, 2016.
