He started violin lessons at the age of 8 and won several music competitions already as a boy. In 1984 he started his studies at the Leipzig University of Music with Prof. Klaus Hertel (violin), Gerhard Bosse (Chamber Music) and Günter Neubert (Composition). Since 1990 he plays as concertmaster at the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig.
He is co-founder of the Gewandhaus-Octet, which undertook several concert tours to Austria, Spain and Japan between 1993 and 2004. From 1993 to 1999 he additionally studied conduction in the class of Prof. Volker Rohde and graduated with a master degree.
Since 2002 Hochschild teaches as professor for orchestral studies in Leipzig. In summer 2004 Henrik Hochschild got involved as coach with the «Junge Deutsche Philharmonie» for the first time. For the INTERNATIONALE JUNGE ORCHESTERAKADEMIE he has been coaching the violonists in the easter project since 2000.
