Professor for double bass at the Hochschule für Musik in Mainz. He is also sub-principal with the Gewandhausorchestra Leipzig under R.Chailly (Andris Nelsons) and member with the Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum performing music of Bach’s time on modern instruments. From 2004 – 2007 he was guest tutor giving master classes in Caracas within „El Sistema“. He is a regualar guest at Aldeburgh Music performing chamber music and tutoring for the Britten-Pears Young Artist programme. He gives Masterclasses in Japan, Korea, South America and Europe. In different ensembles like the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Mozart or the Leipzig Sinfonietta he plays chamber music at several festivals and appeared as soloist in Europe, Asia and South America.
Born in Silesia he studied in Vienna and Geneva with Ludwig Streicher, Franco Petracchi and Christoph Schmidt whose assistant he was. He was awarded the Bottesini Prize of the Carl-Flesch-Academy as well as the 1er Grand Prix de Conservatoire de la Musique Génève and worked with conductors like Georg Solti, Claudio Abbado and Herbert Blomstedt.
